FAQs

Do I need a permit for a fireplace?

As a rule, a fire application is required. As long as nothing is changed on the outside, that is usually all. If a new chimney system is installed, a permit is required, but our customers often receive it in a simplified procedure. We clarify this together with you as part of the planning, depending on the canton and municipality.

How long does it take from order to installation?

Thanks to our large stock of over 2500 fire units, many models are available immediately, so you often get your stove very quickly. The exact time depends on the model and availability, and during the consultation you will receive a specific time frame for your project.

Which wood is best?

Hardwood is best, in Switzerland mainly beech or birch. It burns steadily, gives off a lot of heat and leaves little ash. Logs of 25 or 33 cm in length are usual, to suit the size of your firebox. What matters is well-seasoned, dry wood with a residual moisture below around 20 percent, because only then does it burn cleanly and efficiently.

How do I light the fire correctly, from the top or from the bottom?

Light the fire from the top, not from the bottom. Place the firelighter and fine kindling on top of the logs. The fire then burns slowly downwards, smokes less and is cleaner. Leave the air flap and the chimney damper fully open while doing so.

How often does a fireplace or stove need to be serviced?

We recommend annual servicing and regular cleaning of the chimney by the chimney sweep. This ensures safe operation and good efficiency.

Does the glass get dirty and is there a lot of ash?

With a good, correctly operated stove, the glass stays largely clean thanks to the airwash system and only a little ash is produced. With large glass panels or during the lighting phase, the glass can still mist up slightly, which is normal and easy to clean. Dry wood and correct lighting are decisive for clean glass.
